Join the Prestbury Clean Air campaign

Prestbury Clean Air campaign is committed to improving air quality in our village. Supported by Gloucestershire County Council and together with residents, businesses and schools, we’re making our community healthier, more sustainable and a better place to live.

Why air quality matters

  • Health impact

Air pollution causes serious health problems, including asthma, lung damage, cancer, dementia and heart disease. Growing children and pregnant mums are particularly vulnerable to air pollution.

  • Local concern

Pollution levels often exceed safe thresholds (WHO Air Quality Guidelines update in 2025). We all have a role to play in reducing pollution and protecting the most vulnerable in our community.

With funding and support from GCC, we’re installing a network of PurpleAir air quality monitors around Prestbury to measure pollution levels in real-time. This data helps us:

  • Understand the scale of the problem.
  • Raise awareness about air pollution in our area.
  • Take informed actions to reduce pollution and improve health outcomes.

Once installed, you can view live data from these monitors online at map.purpleair.com

How you can support the campaign

Host or sponsor a monitor

Local businesses, schools and residents can help expand our network of air quality monitors. Hosting a monitor is simple. You just need:

  • Wi-Fi Connection: A 2.4GHz network is needed to upload data.
  • Power supply: A nearby outlet or USB adapter
  • A suitable location: An outdoor spot, away from direct pollution sources (such as vents) but open to fresh air.

We’ll provide full support to get your monitor set up and connected.

Want to know more? We’d love to hear from you.

Whether you’re interested in joining the group, want to host a monitor, or would simply like more information, contact us here.

Spread the word

Talk to friends, neighbours, and colleagues about the importance of air quality. Share tips for reducing pollution such as:

  • Turning off car engines while stationary.
  • Walking, cycling, or using public transport for shorter journeys.
  • Encourage car sharing whether for work or doing hobbies.
  • Supporting policies for sustainable travel and lower emissions
